I'm supposed to be studying for a biology test, but goodness, I love this song. I realize that as a lady, I'm supposed to find this incredible offensive, but I find it more comical than anything. I'll tell you why.

1. You can't understand anything Luke is saying
2. When you can understand him, it's dumb shit like "FREE WILLY"
3. Trick Daddy is rapping super fast sans gold teeth (yes).

Enjoy.

What a wonderful song to just chill out to.

Enjoy.

The incorporation of 70s slang is killing me softly. I want to know more about this Boney M.

Love the laid-back feel of the video. One of my favorites.

The visuals are great, I like the setting and the dancing, but I'm on the fence about the song. It's great for the club, but she's not saying much in the song. JUMPSUITS ARE IN FULL EFFECT in this video and I LOVE IT. Love Missy Elliot, btw.

I love this album.

JER my ride mix4d - Jeremih (Jer-a-my)

I honestly didn't like Jeremih when I first heard "Birthday Sex," but that song and this one have been growing on me. These songs are just so damn easy to sing along to!

P-I-M-P-ology.

I know this doesn't really have a video, but this song is too good to not post. Not very popular, but this is one of my favorite songs from "Cooleyhighharmony."

A real chilled out, rainy day song. Some introspective rap from way back when.

The beat is amazing! Check the dancing though!

Oh My God.

I only listen to this for the chorus. I really love T-Pain on this for some reason and the beat (can it even be called a beat in this situation? It's more of a musical composition) sounds like success. I love it!

My favorite sequence from School Daze. I love Spike Lee movies.

Enjoy!

I used to make stop motion videos when I was a kid, but this guy, PES takes it to a whole new level. His creative use of materials and playful attitude make his videos fun, but still allow the viewer to see the time and thought that went into them.

Enjoy!

I hope he was under the influence of something.

I want to hear more by ATTITUDE (what a great name!).

I am absolutely in love with Prince.

Love the album art!

YES.
I paraphrase Soulja Boy when speaking on his very obviously fake "Gucci" skeakers to introduce today's post. One day, I was sitting in my dorm room and the strangest thought popped into my head,

"You should get a denim shirt!"

Now, I have no idea what in the world told me that I needed a denim shirt, but I'm usually pretty good with things like this. My friend Dekota (can't find the link to his blog at the moment) and I (but mostly him) predicted the harem pant trend for the spring and what do you ya know?! Baggy crotches will soon be everywhere thanks to your local American Apparel. This may not be a hit everywhere, but I think a nice, sleeveless denim shirt will be in the works for Summer/Fall 2009. I'll post the finished product here, but I can guarantee it won't look like this.

Peace!

I love this.

OMG I can't lie. I'm kinda liking this. I'm pretty sure OYN is "SMH"ing at this, but whatever. This would be my shit if I was the type to be "feelin' myself."

Enjoy!

Skip to 0:44 to get to the video. Every other one was freaking disabled!!!!

But anyway, I had heard this song before, but I just recently saw this video. I must say, I was impressed. Bobby Brown wasn't as "off" as he seems these days and I can see how his (stage) personality could've been too much for the rest of New Edition to handle. I love the song because it's poppy and danceable, but I like the video even better because of the dancing and the costumes (can they even be called costumes?). I mean, it's hard for me to believe that they actually took themselves seriously wearing studded jackets with huge shoulder pads and no shirts under them. And the biker shorts with BOBBY down the side? Really? This is why I love the 80s. Everyone was so corny, but didn't realize it. They really thought they were stylin on hoes. The dance moves are great though. This is one album I wish I could find in my family's stash.

When I have a problem, my first instinct is to go to bed. I've always has this infatuation with sleep. When I'm sleeping, everything that happens doesn't matter because it's not real. I have no real problems when I'm sleeping and everything and everyone that has been bothering me goes away for a little while. But, like everything, sleep isn't perfect. Sometimes my problems follow me into my dreams. It's times like those that I realize that true happiness isn't real.

What do you do to get away?

Words cannot explain how much I love this song. The beat, the flows, the imagery in the video are all just wonderful. I mean, when's the last time you saw mountains and beaches in a rap video that weren't strewn with barely clothed video models? It's simplicity at its best; it's just rappers rapping in their street clothes in regular-ass locations. Though I was a wee lass when this single was released, I get the feeling that rappers in the 90s weren't feeling themselves as heavy as they are now. These guys were just normal dudes who happened to rap. They weren't making a whole lot of money, but they were doing what they loved to do and having a good time as well. It's evident from the video that they weren't all that flashy, but were stuntin' with what they did have. I think we could all take a cue from backpack rappers of yesteryear. It's a recession folks, and ballin' on a budget is the new Black.

Bad judgement all around, but  a good song to get your groove on to.

I kill this dance in my dorm room.

Not my mama!

It's videos like this that make me want to be a costume designer. I love this shit.

I'm not kidding. The song is catchy as hell. My favorite part: when she says in-TER-net.

Enjoy.

If you have some free time, I suggest you check this video out. I found this video the other day and I must say, I was intrigued. I had never heard of Sun- Ra before, but after doing some research (read: Wikipedia) I learned that he was an experimental jazz artist that....made videos like this. I like the psychedelic backgrounds a lot. I wonder how they did that effect? I always wonder stuff like that when I happen to catch a silent flick or something. Like how did they get the text on the screen if they didn't have computers and programs like Final Cut and iMovie? Maybe I'm just ignorant of early movie making techniques.  Can you tell me? Because I'd really like to know.

Enjoy the soothing jazz music. Goodnight/Goodmorning/Goodday.

bowties.

My friend Dekota is one of the most stylish dudes I know. He used to work at American Apparel (how hip is that?) and is always coming up with ways to switch his style up. Tonight, I went to see him model in a fashion show and decided that I would surprise him by jacking his swag a little bit. I wore a bow tie.

Personally, I think bow ties on women (and men, of course) are a good look, even in casual settings. They add an air of sophistication to even the most dull button ups. Now, I'm not saying that I think bow ties are ok all the time. Don't go out there wearing a tie with no collar under it a la Chippendales, 'cause that is not cute.

Swing that weave.

During the day, I went shopping with a few friends and picked up a black 60's button- up from a local vintage/junk/punk clothing store and wore it with a vintage bow tie that I got from the same place for free on accident (I was going to put a $3 bow tie on my debt card and the lady said it wasn't worth it. They get charged $1 every time someone uses a card to buy something. WTF?). Check it out.

No full body shots, yet. We're just friends.

Add a bow tie to your wardrobe and see if you don't love it. I know you will. So go cop one from your local thrift store. Now.

get it girl.

I love dirty rap music. I've heard bits and pieces of 2 Live Crew's music over the years, but just recently, I started looking up some of their more popular songs on Youtube. The one above, "Get It Girl," just happens to be one of my favorites. Their creative use of samples and minimalist use of background dancers are the main reasons I like this video so much. And I really just like Fresh Kid Ice's voice. When I think about how much trouble 2 Live Crew got into back in the day, I wonder how they felt when they were writing these dirty raps. I mean, it's obvious that they didn't give a FUCK, but did they even think of censoring themselves? Ever? Probably not. They must've felt like kings when they performed in front of the children of the people who were trying to get their CDs banned. It had to have felt good being that bad.
I love the 90s, dancing, rap music and Youtube and this video contains all of those things. I am constantly scouring the internet for all of my favorite songs from back in the day that give me that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. This is one of those songs, kinda. I remember this song from my childhood and looking at the video today after not having seen it for a few years, a couple things are painfully evident:

1. Budgets for videos in 1997 weren't nearly as generous as they are now.
2. People in the 90s wore some weird shit.
3. Computer graphics really have come a long way.
4. "Princess Leia's" buns are black. Her hair is brown.

OK, enough with the song ambiguous intro. I present to you, DA DIP by Freak Nasty.

Can you dig it?
